BIOGRAPHY
Before embarking upon his singing career, tenor Daniel Pataky received an advanced degree in violin studies from the Bartók Béla Music Art Institute, University of Miskolc in Hungary under the tutelage of Eszter Perényi.
He later studied voice at the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy of Budapest as a student of Éva Marton from which he graduated in 2010.
His first operatic roles included Desirè in Giordano's Fedora at the International Opera Festival under the musical direction of conductor Joseph Rescigno, Ottó in Erkel's Bánk bán in Budapest, Dani in György Ránki's King Pomádé's New Clothes, and Tamino in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Hungarian State Opera.
He performed Tamino again with Zoltán Kocsis at the Palace of Arts where he also appeared as soloist in Honegger's King David, Kodály's Te Deum of Budavár and Psalmus Hungaricus with the National Philharmony Orchestra.
In concert, Mr. Pataky has sung the role of Jonathan in Händel's Saul at the Music Academy of Budapest conducted by Helmuth Rilling and King Midas in Bach's secular cantata Geschwinde, ihr wirbelnden Winde with conductor Peter Schreier. He appeared as guest soloist in "The Hungarian Year" at the Music Academy of Shanghai, in Kodály's Psalmus Hungaricus on diverse occasions including in live broadcasts on Hungarian National Radio, and in a series of concerts of Kodály's The Transylvanian Spinning Room in Japan at the Tokyo Opera.
Leading roles include Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Nemorino in L'Elisir d'amore, Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, and Rodolfo in La Bohème.
During the 2010-11 season he was heard as Tamino, Malcolm and Dani in György Ránki's King Pomade's New Clothes at the Hungarian State Opera, as Don José and Hunyadi László in Erkel's Hunyadi László at the Csokonai Theater, Debrecen, and the role of The Theatre Director in Peter Eötvös' Radames at the International Bartók Seminar and Festival in Szombathely, Hungary.
This season he sings Ottó in Erkel's Bánk bán, Matteo in Richard Strauss' Arabella, Malcolm in Verdi's Macbeth, and Walter and Heinrich in Wagner's Tannhäuser.
In 2011 he performed at Bayreuth's Stadthalle in Liszt's Christ Oratorie as part of World Liszt Day under the artistic direction of Maestro Adam Fischer.
Daniel Pataky has appeared on tour throughout Austria, Germany, Slovakia, The Czech Republic, Romania, Estonia, The Netherlands, Spain, Russia, China, and Japan.
