BIOGRAPHY
Laura Kimmel began singing professionally at the age of ten while living in Yokohama, Japan. While there, she appeared in the St. Matthew Passion with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra at Suntory Hall and appeared in various commercials and television programs in Tokyo, Japan.
Described as "amazingly kaleidoscopic" as the Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd and "stealing the show" as The Witch in Neely Bruce's Hansel and Gretel, Laura Kimmel is an extremely versatile performer equally accomplished in stage works, opera, operetta and musical theatre. She has played Melissa in Love Letters at Chicago's Damen Theater, The Baker's Wife in Into the Woods, Betty in Vinegar Tom, and Beverly in The Shadow Box.
Recently, she was highly praised for her portrayal of Miss Forsythe in Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman at the Bowen Theater in Illinois, and for her scene work as Frau Reich (Meg Page) in Nicolai's Die lustigen Weiber von Windsorhe, Emilia in Otello, and Charlotte in Massenet's Werther.
This season she appears as Columbine in W.S. Gilbert's Eyes and No Eyes with The Savoyaires near her home town of Chicago.
Ms. Kimmel has performed Stephano in Roméo and Juliette, Mother Rigby in The Scarecrow, La Abuela in La Vida Breve, Flora in La Traviata, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro and The Second Orphan in a concert version of Der Rosenkavalier with Sinfonia da Camera.
She appeared as alto soloist with the Champaign Symphony Orchestra in Händel's Messiah. At the National SEAMUS Conference, Ms. Kimmel was soloist in Sever Tipei's Curses.
Laura Kimmel holds a Bachelor's degree in Music from Drake University and a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Illinois. She currently studies voice with renowned mezzo soprano Tracy Watson.
